The first-of-its-kind Filipino-made knifefish leather will be exhibited at this year's Fashion Week after its successful development by the Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) as a prized exotic leather. The knifefish leather will be used as raw material for bags and fashion accessories by fashion designers participating at this year's Fashion Week of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), according to Daisy F. Ladra of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR). The innovative product was developed as a way to solve the problem of invasion in Laguna Lake of the knifefish. It is native to South America in the Amazon Basin.
