The European Union (EU) is now funding a project on mudcrab (alimango) involving four institutions worldwide, among them a Philippine government-hosted Southeast Asian center. Titled "Culture and Management of Scylla Species," the three-year (2002-2004) project is being underwritten by EU through the European Commission. Involved are the Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center Aquaculture Department (SEAFDEC AQD) based in Tigbauan, Iloilo; the Can Tho University in Vietnam; Artemia Reference Center of the University of Ghent in Belgium; and University of Wales (Bangor) in the United Kingdom.
