local.seafdecaqd.extract | Fishermen have started returning tags recovered from their catch to Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), which is engaged in multilateral scientific-projects to develop regional conservation management plans and ensure the sustainability of tuna and small pelagic fish in Southeast Asia. BFAR officials said among the first to turn over the tags were fishermen from a coastal city in Albay who yielded tags found on yellow fin tuna they caught in the Pacific ocean. A similar species tracking effort is also being undertaken by the Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center (SEAFDEC) involving small pelagics particularly alumahan (Japanese mackerel), hasa-hasa (short-bodied mackerel, Indian mackerel) and galunggong (round scad). | en |
