The Philippines coral reefs ecosystem provides diverse and valuable functions and services such as coastal protection, fisheries production and tourism among others. Through the years, there were many initiatives and efforts to protect, conserve and rehabilitate this fragile ecosystem undertaken by various government agencies, organization, institutions and sectors both at the national and regional levels. The sustainable Coral Reef Ecosystems Management Program or SCREMP is a national program under the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) that conducts a strategic, sustainable and ecosystem-based approach in protecting and rehabilitating coral reef ecosystems within the country through the Coastal & Marine Management Division (CMMD), now Coastal Resources and Foreshore Management Section (CRFMS).en
