The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) denounced what it alleged as China’s attempt to block a medical evacuation (medevac) of a sick Filipino in the West Philippine Sea (WPS). The incident occurred on May 19, the same day that Chinese authorities seized a food package meant for troops onboard BRP Sierra Madre in Ayungin (Second Thomas) Shoal. “The barbaric and inhumane behavior displayed by the China Coast Guard (CCG) has no place in our society,” Commodore Jay Tarriela, PCG spokesperson for WPS, said on Friday, June 7.
