Agriculture and fishery officials welcomed the establishment of a biotechnology laboratory here as "uplifting news" in aqua0culture industry amid the global gloom spawned by th crisis in the Middle East. The facility, built at the Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center-Aquaculture Department (Seafdec-AQD), is the first in the country. On Thursday, officials of the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) turned over the facility to Agriculture Secretary Luis Lorenzo and Rolando Platon, chief of the Seafdec-AQD.
