A group composed of scientists, ecologists and environmentalists warned of further environmental destruction if the operation of the Semirara Mining Corp. (SMC) is not stopped. The group, composed of representatives from Green Forum, Global Legal Action on Climate Change (GLACC), University of the Philippines (UP) in the Visayas and The Antique Outdoors, issued this warning after laboratory findings of samples recently taken from Sitio Bigo in Brgy. Alegria proved the claims of the residents that the area is now heavily polluted due to coal waste from mining operations.
