Agriculture Undersecretary for Fisheries Cesar Drilon has enjoined Ilonggos to protect the kapis shells in their coastal waters. Drilon made the appeal during a recent dialogue with fisherfolk concerning the protection of breeding sites of kapis shells, locally known as lampirong, at Barangay Namucon, this town. Namucon is one of the four breeding sites of kapis shells in Iloilo's first district, which encompasses the towns of Tigbauan, Oton, and Guimbal. Kapis breeding is a collaborative project of the Tigbauan based Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center Aquaculture Department (SEAFDEC AQD) and the local government units (LGUs).
