    Excerpt
Intense heat resulting from the prolonged dry weather phenomenon, El Niño is causing fear among shrimp and prawn growers in this province about the emerging disease called Early Mortality Syndrome ( EMS) or Acute Hepatopancreatic Necoris Disease (AHPND), recently observed here. According to Raoul Flores, vice president of Negros Prawn Producers Cooperative Vice President Raoul Flores said El Niño results to hot temperatures and high water salinity level in fish ponds, intensifying the risk of AHPND existence in prawn and shrimp production areas.
