With the apparent resurgence of the lucrative shrimp industry, the Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center/Aquaculture Department (Seafdec/AQD) is urging shrimp growers to include reservoir and tails pond in their culture system to ensure sustainability. A reservoir is about 25 percent of the culture area where all incoming water is stored for at least a week and biologically treated before releasing into the environment. Seafdec/AQD has consistently demonstrated the viability and profitability of its intensive culture system and now being promoted nationwide in collaboration with the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR).
