Closed season in Visayan Sea takes effect
Excerpt
Gathering of sardines, herring, mackerel, and other pelagic fishes in the Visayan Sea by commercial fishers is prohibited starting November 17. The move is in compliance with Fisheries Administrative Order 167-3 that mandates the establishment of a closed season in the said body of water. Law enforcement agencies composed of the Philippine National Police (PNP), Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and Philippine Navy, municipal fisherfolks, commercial fishers and other stakeholders joined the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) in a kick-off ceremony in Estancia, Iloilo, said BFAR-6 director Remia A. Aparri.
