Mayor Felipe Nava of Jordan, Guimaras exhorted SEAFDEC/AQD (Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center/Aquaculture Department) and BFAR (Bureau of Fisheries And Aquatic Resources) to focus development assistance to the poor fisheries. The call was made during the one-day skills development session on net cage culture conducted at the Technology Demonstration Center in Jordan, Guimaras. Participants were prospective beneficiaries of the Igang Mariculture Park demonstration project who are also members of the province's MFARMC (Municipal Fishery and Agriculture Management Council). Mayor Nava also appealed to the two lead institutions to develop the capabilities of the fishers to fight poverty and be self-sufficient. "They are most neglected sector-even worse than farmers", he said.
