All existing positions at the Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center - Aquaculture Department (SEAFDEC-AQD) based in this municipality, except that of the center chief, have been declared abolished effective July 16, 2004, to give way to new and relevant positions. The abolition of all these positions which affected more than 180 employees here - was approved by the SEAFDEC Council based in Bangkok, Thailand, and the Philippines government following recommendations of a committee tasked to streamline the operation of the international fisheries research center. Center chief Rolando Platon was recommended by the Philippine government and re-appointed by the SEAFDEC Council last April 2004 for his fifth term of two years.
