The fisheries Aquaculture board (FAB) seeks the government’s immediate lifting of the ban on the commercial culture of the vannamei shrimps as initial experimentation showed that it can be bred locally free of disease. In a letter to the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), FAB President Lourdes R. Tanco said that despite the fact that vannamei experimentations have proved that the tested broodstocks are disease-free, the BFAR still has not lifted the vannamei ban. Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center (SEAFDEC) has already proved the testing to be negative of all the disease identified in the protocol, we are surprised that the Bureau continues to ban vannamei, “said Md. Tanco in the letter.en
