local.seafdecaqd.extract | BFAR National Director Eduardo Gongona told The Manila Times the agency had submitted its proposal to the National Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Management Council (NFARMC) designating 15 major fishing grounds as FMAs. Once declared as an FMA, a fishing ground will undergo a management regime that will ensure stronger protection geared toward sustainability, and in turn, provide enough fish in the local market, Gongona said. “We are doing these kinds of efforts and measures to really improve our fish production. We want to protect our bodies of water so that our farmers can harvest more and provide supply to the market and the Filipino consumers,” Gongona said. | en |
