The Philippines cannot get military assistance from allies, including the United States, in its ongoing dispute with China over the West Philippine Sea. Supreme Court Associate Justice Antonio Carpio stressed this during his presentation on "Perspective on the Issues involving the West Philippine Sea" at the Armed Forces of the Philippines Commisioned Officers' Club in Camp Aguinaldo Quezon City. The Philippines and the US signed in 1951 a Mutual Defence Treaty with the United States.
