To encourage a ready market for Philippine oysters and mussel, SEAFDEC aquaculture department is developing techniques for purifying oysters and mussels so that they can meet international health standards. Oysters and mussels are kept in flowing sterilized seawater for 48 hours. Raw oysters purified this way are safe to eat.
