A fast-growing big-head carp from China was introduced for the first time in Bicol as the aquaculture department of the Southeast Asian Fisheries and Development Center (SEAFDEC) donated 6,000 fingerlings of such species in a unique lakeseeding activity to mark President Marco's 68th birthday. Lakes Bato and Buhi were stocked with, aside from the bighead carp fingerlings, 20,000 fingerlings of tilapia and milkfish donated by the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR).
