    Excerpt
Fish farming, promoted as a smart way to help feed the world's surging population, is having a disastrous impact on the environment and on stocks of wild fish according to research published Thursday. Aquaculture is a "contributing factor to the collapse of fisheries stocks worldwide," warns a group of scientists from the United States, Scotland, Sweden and the Philippines, publishing their work in the British weekly Nature.
