The emphasis of BFAR's programs today, however, is not only on conservation but also on sustained production. "We are thinking of two things," says Director Araullo. "First is to produce enough for the present generation and second is the conservation of resources for the future generation." This indeed, requires some sort of balancing act which may be difficult in the light of increasing food needs of the growing population.
