When the Scandinavian once get to see the sunrise in far-flung Aurora province, he told his hosts that it was good they named their province after the dawn aurora borealis glows over in his own country. In 1979, director Francis Ford Coppola shot here the famous surf episode for the Martin Sheen Apocalypse Now. The scene helped Baler become a destination for international surfers, eventually hosting hotshot events such as the Aurora Surfing Cup.
