BFAR-8 issues red tide warning

The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources in Region 8 (BFAR-8) has issued a warning to the public about the presence of red ride toxins in some areas of Eastern Visayas, a report from BFAR-8, based in this city, said here today. BFAR-8 Regional Director Dr. Juan Albaladejo told The Manila Bulletin that his office has issued a public advisory on the presence of red tide toxins inOrmoc Bay, which comprises the City of Ormoc, and the towns of Merida and Albuera, all of Leyte province; the coastal waters of Calubian, Leyte; and Matarinao Bay which covers the municipalities of Gen. MacArthur, Hernani, Quinapondan and Salcedo, all in Eastern Samar. Albaladejo said his office advised the public to refrain from gathering, selling and eating all types of shellfishes and Acetes species, locally known as alamang or hipon, and other marine products harvested from those areas.
