Fisherfolk and urban poor residents along Laguna Lake appealed yesterday to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) to revoke the contract of a Belgian dredging firm for the conduct of the controversial ₱18.7-billion Laguna Lake dredging project. Some 150 fisherfolk and urban poor residents along Laguna Lake dumped sacks of water lilies at the gate of the DENR main office in Quezon City to protest the ₱18.7-billion dredging project in Laguna Lake. The groups pointed out that the dredging of Laguna Lake "is not anchored on genuine rehabilitation but premised on all-out privatization and conversion of the 94,000-hectare fragile lake."
