The Region 7 office of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR-7) here is strengthening the promotion of inland fishing in Central Visayas, emphasizing that the practice can reduce the shortage of fish supply in the region. BFAR-7 assistant chief for monitoring, controlling, and surveillance section Nathaniel Lucero disclosed that with the continuing problem on illegal fishing that has resulted into the depletion and scarcity of fish supply, the agency has been active in promoting mariculture for inland farming. "The bureau has been providing technical support for those local government units (LGUs) that are involved in mariculture like in the town of Calape in Bohol, as it will alleviate the problem on fish shortage" he said.en
