    Excerpt
Major oil player Chevron Philippines (formerly Caltex) said yesterday there is no cause for surprise or alarm over the reported "oil spill" originating from thee company's underwater pipeline in Bacolod City. Toby Nebrida, Chevron communications manager, clarified that what occurred along the coastline of Bacolod was a "controlled release" of their product, which was subsequently recovered. "What happened was a release of product, under very controlled conditions, as a result of the ongoing decommissioning civil works on the old fuel receiving pipeline," Nebrida said.
