The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) and Land Banl of the Philippines (Land Bank) are embarking on a rent-a-cage program to help groups of fishermen affected by the El Niño phenomenon. Land Bank and BFAR formalized this week an agreement to promote mariculture parks (MP) all over the country, which means additional parks to the 49 already existing in the country. BFAR director Malcolm I. Sarmiento, Jr. said that the partnership brings good news to the small fisherfolk associations that have been hindered from using credit from regular banks to support their livelihood projects.
