Tourist traffic from the Philippines to Palau grew five percent, from 2008 to 2009, according to the Palau Visitors Authority, in part because of GMA7's Survivor Palau, which introduced most Filipinos to the tropical brilliance of this tiny island nation roughly 500 miles east of the Philippines. Palau is attracting younger, upmarket adventure travelers from the Philippines, who consider it an advanced diving and adventure destination, according to Ameiliik State governor Leilani Reklai, a former tourism official.
