| local.seafdecaqd.extract | The Department of Environment and Natural Resources in Region 7 (DENR 7) has formed an eight-member composite team for a three-month research study on the ecology and feeding habits of whales sharks (Rhincodon typus) in Barangay Tan-awan, this town. This, after several wildlife and environmental advocates filed a petition to stop this kind of anthropogenic practice believing that it is not an environment-friendly activity and which could even harm the whales. "This is a multi-agency undertaking which will look at this phenomenon with the goal of protecting and conserving the species and at the same time supporting the ecotourism industry so as not to deprive our local fisherfolks of reasonable income," said DENR 7 regional executive director Dr. Isabelo R.
