From hereon, Filipino tuna fishermen will only be limited to the use of circle hooks in catching their prey. The Department of Agriculture (DA) says it will intensify its campaign for the use of circle hooks in catching tuna in Philippine waters as part of the initiatives being implemented by six countries involved in the Coral Triangle Initiative (CTI), says Agriculture Secretary Arthur Yap. Yap adds the use of circle hooks, now applied by major tuna fishing companies, would be required in long-line tuna fisheries by mid-2010.
