A storm of hurricane proportions is brewing at the Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center (SEAFDEC), the prestigious international aquaculture research and development organization. At the eye of the storm is the head of SEAFDEC's Iloilo-based Aquaculture Department (AQD), Dr. Rolando Platon, who is in the middle of a conflict-of-interest controversy, as claimed by a group of AQD scientists seeking ouster. The matter was also brought to the attention of the SEAFDEC secretary general in Bangkok. Niwes Ruangpanit, by Tambuyog, a fishery NGO, in a letter which was copy-furnished to the media and NGO communities.
