Western Visayas is set to launch its marine transport research network program in response to the government’s drive to modernize the transport sector. “We are very serious in addressing the modernization frustrates of our shipping sector. It is very ironic that we supply practically the majority of seafarers all over the world. We are an archipelagic country and yet we have no viable shipping sector,” engineer Rowen Gelonga, director of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) 6 (Western Visayas), said in a press conference in their office here on Friday.
