The entire service area of Metro Iloilo Water District (MIWD) is experiencing intermittent low water pressure in the past two days due to heavy siltation at the Maasin weir. From Feb 15-16, 2018, water production at the Sta. Barbara Water Treatment Plan (WTP) was reduced from 34,000 cubic meters per day (cu.m.) to 28,000 cu.m. A weir is a low wall built across a stream or river to raise the level of the water or to change the direction of its flow. In Maasin, the weir-like barricade at Tigum River diverts water flow into MIWD’s 20-inch suction pipeline which leads to its water processing plant in Talanghuan, Sta. Barbara.en
