"Water, water everywhere - nor any drop to drink." - Samuel Taylor Coleridge in The Rime of the Ancient Mariner. As an archipelago of about 7,641 islands, the Philippines is sorrounded by large bodies of water. The country is also "visited" by about 20 typhoons a year, five of which are destructive forces of nature causing heavy downpours and massive flooding.
