    Excerpt
To give face to the legitimate fishermen in the country, the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) is pushing for the extensive implementation of the municipal fisherfolk registration or FishR. During the recent launching of fishR in the Central Visayas, lawyer Asis Perez, BFAR national bureau director, said the completion of the program will allow the agency to come up with a national database that would aid local government units(LGUs) in managing, regulating, conserving, and protecting their fishery resources. Being the seventh fish producer in the world, the country needs a Comprehensive Fishery Information System which is also in line with the mandates of the Fisheries Code of 1998, Perez said.
