The Police Provincial Office announced Sunday the arrest of 10 fishermen in separate areas amid the ramped up campaign against illegal fishing. Senior Superintendent Christopher C. Birung, provincial director of the Oriental Mindoro PPO said two fishing vessels which were spotted at about 11:40 p.m. last August 31 off Barangay Maujao were taken under custody by the local police in Bulalacao town after its crew failed to present proper documents and fishing permist. Birung said that upon proper turn-over to concerned government agency, the crew and the owner of the vessel will be charged with violation of Republic Act 8550 or the Philippine Fisheries Code of 1998 as amended by RA 10654 or an Act to prevent, deter and eliminate illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing.
