The production of 600 m bangus fry from the wild from a previous 1.2 billion on estimates by the Department of Agriculture resulted in an August 1, 1998-July 31, 1999 study monitored by the Philippine Council for Aquatic and Marine Research and Development (PCAMRD). Entitled DOST-UNDP Gainex Program, the milkfish broodstock development and fry production in ponds and tanks implemented by the University of the Philippines in the Visayas-Brackishwater Aquaculture Center (UPV-BAC) and the Jamandre Hatcheries (private sector) and coordinated by PCAMRD.
