The Philippine government is conducting an inventory of its laws related to fisheries and patrimony in preparation for talks with Taiwan. Any talks for a possible fisheries agreement between the Philippines and Taiwan, however, will be pursued only after the case involving the shooting of a Taiwanese fisherman by local coast guard personnel is resolved, according to President Benigno S. Aguino III. Meanwhile, the PCG has acquired 258 video cameras to document all land-based and sea-based operations and admitted that the fatal shooting of the Taiwanese fisherman was a "lesson learned" for the government agency.
