Science and Technology Secretary Estrella Alabastro led the recognition and awarding of scientists during the closing ceremonies of the National Science and Technology Week on July 20 at the Phivolcs auditorium, University of the Philippines Compound, Diliman, Quezon City. Dr. Zubaida Basiao of the Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center Aquaculture Department and Dr. Roger Doyle of Dalhousic University were the awardees for the Dr. Elvira Tan Memorial Award, which was sponsored by the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Forestry and Natural Resources and Development. Basiao and Doyle were conferred the award for having the best-published paper in aquaculture. Their paper, entitled "Test of size-specific mass election for Nile tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus L., cage farming in the Philippines," was published in the Aquaculture Research Journal.
