A top Japanese defense official warned Monday that China has a military purpose in its creation of islands in the South China Sea, citing the possibility of Beijing declaring an air defense identification zone, or ADIZ, over the waters. "China is building islands in the South China Sea on which to put radars and air defense missiles," Masanori Nishi, policy adviser to Defense Minister Gen Nakatani, said in an article contributed to Defense News, a US weekly paper.
