local.descriptionOne of the strategies arrived at during the recent shrimp congress in Bacolod City is for growers to produce antibiotic-free prawns, using environment-friendly culture systems. It was observed that in 1993 to 1996, the Philippines ranked no. 4 among the world's top shrimp producers, overshadowed only by China, Thailand and Indonesia. Today, the country to no. 8, prompting the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources to organize the 3rd Shrimp Congress aimed at consolidating the gains in shrimp culture technologies and unifying different shrimp organizations into one national organization - the Philshrimp.en
