₱ 6.8-M loss in Taal fishkill

The municipality of Talisay, Batangas reported that fish cage owners lost more than P6.8 million after the upwelling of sulfur in Taal Lake killed bangus and tilapia last Jan. 29 and 30. In a press briefing here Friday, Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources- Batangas Inland Fisheries Technology Outreach Station (BFAR) head Nenita Kawit said 99.8 metric tons of fish were killed in Barangay Sampalok. She said sulfur upwelling was also reported in Balete town but there was no fish kill.
