The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) has launched the country’s first food processing innovation center in Davao, aimed to further boost the operations of the agriculture and fishery sectors in Mindanao region. "Food processing contributes more than 40 percent of the Philippines' major manufacturing output," DOST Undersecretary for Regional Operations Carol M. Yorobe said during the opening of the facility. Stressing that food processing is a big contributor to manufacturing output, Yorobe said local food companies can now avail themselves of various services the facility offers such as vacuum packaging and immersion freezer.
