A group of Muslims from Marawi City moved to this resort island last year to rebuild their lives after Marawi became a war zone. With the closure of the Boracay to tourists, they once again face a life of uncertainty. “I’m hurt. Our home was destroyed last year and we had to stop going to school. We came here to find a better life, but this is had to happen,” said 21-year-old Mariam Ali, who runs a small shop selling souvenir shirts and beach clothing on the beach front in Station 2. The day after the government shut down Boracay, her shop was still open. Ali told Manila Bulletin she’s trying to sell whatever items she can since she purchased them days before President Duterte ordered the Boracay clean up during the next six months.en
