The Department of the Interior and Interior Government (DILG) said that a rehabilitated Boracay Island will be the yardstick for all other resort islands and destinations in the country in terms of environmental sustainability and sanitation. DILG officer-in-charge (OIC) Eduardo M. Año assured that local and foreign tourists will be welcome in the world famous island resort, but its carrying capacity will be limited 19,000 visitors. Año stressed that during the soft reopening at the end of this month, only business establishments which have operating sewerage treatment plants (STPs) will be allowed to operate.
