Tiger prawn raising marked a hefty growth in the second quarter to 3,164 metric tons (MT) from only 136.93 MT in the same period in 2007 which should also raise Philippine prawn export to Japan and other countries. The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) noted that high-value aquaculture species- tiger prawn and crabs- have been recording significant output growth due to increased stocking and framers' exposure to proper cultural management practices. Both BFAR and the Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center-Aquaculture Department are tasked to monitor importation of these broodstocks in order to ensure quality control.en
