The Department of Agriculture (DA) is eyeing to increase shrimp production to 1000,000 metric tons (MT) in five years via the large- scale production of Penaeus vannamei, or Pacific white shrimp. Agriculture Undersecretary Jesus Emmanuel Paras said the department is confident that this level of production can easily be achieved considering that culturing P. vannamei is easier.
