Sardines firms ask BOC permission to import directly through Zambo port

Twelve giant canning and sardine factories in this city yesterday asked Bureau of Customs (BoC) Commissioner Isidro S Lapeña to allow them to receive imported goods and material they use in the production of sardines canned goods at the Zamboanga City port. In a letter to Lapeña, said the Southern Philippines Deep Sea Fishing Associations (SOPHIL), Industrial Group of Zamboanga Inc. and Chamber of Fish Processors of Zamboanga City asked that their “importation of goods, like tomato paste, used in the making of sardines, be shippped directly to Zamboanga City Port.” They also asked that the payment of import duties and taxes be also made at the same port.
