Oysters, mussels, and other shellfish earlier banned by the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) due to red tide in the coast of this province have still made their way to the market, authorities warned yesterday. BFAR-Bataan Chief Imelda Nieto said the toxicity level in the coastal waters of Bataan has increased to 1,457g STXg/100g, making all shellfish gathered in the area even more dangerous to eat. Nieto repeated that the red tide toxin, which causes paralytic shellfish poisoning, has affected this city and the municipalities of Mariveles, Limay, Orion, Pilar, Abucay, Samal, and Orani.en
