Silliman University conferred to Prof. Gary Ronald Russ, an Australia marine scientist, the Doctor of Science degree honoris causa in ceremonies last Friday at the Claire Isabel McGill Luce Auditorium. In a media release sent to Manila Bulletin, the SU-Office of Information and Publications (OIP) said Russ is the chief investigator of the Australian Research Council (ARC) Centre of Excellence in Coral ReefStudies at James Cook University (JCU). Russ was cited for his outstanding international accomplishments as a marine scientist and for his contribution toward shaping Philippine Policy on No-Take Marine Reserves (NTMRs) and local marine resource management, SU-OIP officer-in-charge Madeline Quiamco said.
