Tuna group slams officials over illegal fishing
Excerpt
A GROUP of tuna fishers in General Santos City (GenSan) decried the government’s failure to curb illegal fishing that threatens the local tuna industry. Jake Fajurano, owner of Melvi Fishing Industry and officer of the Alliance of Tuna Handliners, said the local government in GenSan has failed to implement fishing regulations that would protect fishermen and their livelihood. He said former president Benigno Aquino 3rd signed Executive Order (EO)154 in December 2013 that calls for the implementation of the national plan of action to prevent and eliminate illegal fishing in the country.
